In this seminar, through focusing on some major textbooks, we shall examine the passive in terms of grammar rules and sentence structure, and the grammatical errors made by learners of Japanese. This will include an in-depth, interactive discussion of the speaker's PhD research, as well as smaller group discussions to explore the topic in greater detail. We advise participants to revise their own textbooks beforehand and bring them with them to the seminar. We also request that participants bring for discussion their own examples of other common mistakes made by learners of Japanese.
